What I'm Reading
I always loved seeing someone carrying a book in their hands, walking down the street, on the subway, in a cafe. Books have an attractive quality to them. It’s very curious to see who they will bring out, who will make a comment on what you are reading, have they read it too? I meet the most interesting people just carrying a book around. From my hotel room just now to the cafe at the Hotel Chelsea an old man in the elevator and the barista both commented on my copy of Henry Miller’s The Colossus of Maroussi (not my favorite of his works so far). People are friendlier when they see you are reading a book, you have a thirst for knowledge, you wish to be more interesting than you were yesterday. I’ve never tried this but I’ve considered it. Just sit in a cafe with a Jane Austen novel on the table in plain sight and see who comes over, its like a fishing pole for beautiful sentimental women I swear. Put Nietzsche on the table and you might just find your next best friend. I spent so much time living in cities attracting the wrong type of people, little did I know that just holding a book could change everything. You could make new friends, find some romance, even get a job (not that you’d want one), and all the while you’ll learn a thing or two.
With all that said I get a lot of messages asking what I’m reading and instead of replying to all of them I thought I would make it public. If you’d like to join me please read along. “I have the simplest of taste, I am always satisfied with the best.” - Oscar Wilde.
